Aromatic massage and Aromatherapy occupies an
important part of Ayurveda, a natural healthcare
system which has been used permanently since
the last 4 to 5 thousand years.
These massages, i.e. Pancha Karma,
the most powerful protection and rejuvenation
method of Ayurveda, may be applied either during
physiological purification cure, or independently
from the cure. When applied during physiological
purification cure, they help extraction, and
direction toward to the excretion tract of toxins
which are softened from inside through orally
intaken oils.
Ayurvedic aromatic massages, when
applied separately, helps people get relieved
from effects of the stress, and get relaxed,
and relax muscular spasms, diminish pains, and
regulate sleeping times.
Another feature of Ayurvedic massages
is that massages are applied to females by a
female couple, and to males by a male couple
of technicians in a synchronous manner. Having
undergone a special training in this respect,
these couples of technicians act in a harmonious
and spontaneous manner to increase effect of
the massage on the body by means of two pairs
of hands.
As in the case of diets, body
types are of fundamental importance for both
application of the massage, and selection of
oils used for massage purposes. Ayurveda considers
three basic body types, and mixed types based
on combination of these basic types.
Individuals dominated by Vata
body type generally have a thin body, superficial
sleep, dry and cold skin, and irregular digestion,
and learns and forgets easily, and are apt to
constipation, sadness, and rush.
Individuals dominated by Pitta
body type have a medium body, strong digestion
and appetite, a skin apt to reddening, hair
to getting lost and whitening, and a medium
term memory, do not miss any meal, are impatient
and brave, and tempted to get excited and irritated.
Individuals dominated by Kapha
body type generally are generally apt to getting
weight, move slowly, have a heavy sleep, and
are tolerant and tender, learn and forget in
a difficult manner, their skin apt to getting
fat and itching, may miss meals, are patient
and resistant.
Importance of body types in Ayurveda
is that property called Dosha which forms the
body type gives rise to certain diseases when
it gets out of balance. In light of this reality,
a protection is secured against diseases when
dosha is balanced with dietary and aromatic
massage approaches of Ayurveda, and toxins are
excreted.
Curative herbs added to aromatic
oils used for Ayurvedic massages could balance
doshas, thus these oils and massages have considerable
curing effects.
These curative herbs are boiled
with oils ( sesame oil is the oil used most)
for hours to pass their essences into the oil
, then strained, and made ready for use.
Curative effects of aromatic oils
intaken through breathing in both massage and
living environments are felt in physiology.
It is fundamental to consider body types and
weakening physiological parts within scope of
this application called Aromatherapy.
Odors which spread into the environment
by pouring simply on a handkerchief, or by means
of odor spreading tools called electrical or
waxed diffusers give a balance to physiology,
and render individuals more vigorous and energetic,
and consequently happier in the daily living,
and more successful in business life.
